Cheers @Flowdalic : I've recently released a modernized (with help of others) instant-messaging-plugin and an ircbot-plugin, so hoped to help modernize jabber-plugin too.
One roadblock here seems to be the lack of maven configuration at all, that I would post separately - in particular, it needs someone (you?) to go over the pom.xml and specify dependencies (smack, etc.) in a way that
mvn packagewould find them.So this PR remains to carry the parts needed for style (maybe needs to change for your codebase, e.g. spaces-in-tab count for indentations) and to have dependabot post bumps to the project.
