A simple e-commerce application designed as a hands-on learning platform for DevOps concepts and practices.

Overview

This project provides a minimal yet functional shop application that serves as a practical foundation for exploring modern DevOps workflows. Students will deploy, automate, and monitor this application while learning industry-standard tools and methodologies.

Dev prerequisites

• Node.js >= 18.x
• Python >= 3.11
• uv (Python package manager)
• tmux

Getting Started

1. Install dependencies

# Frontend
cd frontend && npm install

# Backend
cd backend && uv sync

2. Initialize the database

cd backend/core
uv run python manage.py migrate
uv run python manage.py createsuperuser
uv run python manage.py seed_products

3. Start development servers

./start-dev.sh

This runs frontend on http://localhost:8080 and backend on http://localhost:8000.

4. (Optional) Add more products via Django Admin

1. Go to http://localhost:8000/admin/
2. Login with your superuser credentials
3. Add products with name, description, price, and image URL
