In this pull request, we finish adding type annotations to the project, switch to a
src-based file layout so that this project can be installed withpip install ., and apply automatic formatting and linting viaruff.This might be a bit much to review at once, so first off I would recommend looking at changes commit-by-commit instead of all at once, and if that's too much I could break this up into multiple pull requests if needed.
