The University of Strathclyde is a public research university in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute (from the bequest of John Anderson, who championed "useful learning"), it is Glasgow's second-oldest university. It received its royal charter in 1964 as the UK's first technological university, formed from the merger of the Royal College of Science and Technology and the Scottish College of Commerce.
