This week I focused on open source contributions to the WooCommerce iOS app, with major work on the AI Assistant feature. I migrated the chat backend from the legacy Jetpack endpoint to a new, dedicated woo-mobile-ai API, introducing a streaming chat-completions client and switching authentication to use WPCOM OAuth. I also cleaned up legacy code, expanded unit test coverage, and improved error handling across rate-limit, auth, and upstream cases. To support new agentic workflows, I added in-tree documentation for the AI Assistant module, making it easier for agents and engineers to get up to speed. Overall, my efforts have made the AI Assistant faster, more maintainable, and ready for the next wave of integration work.
