Introduction to SWORD

Introduction

Spherically Wound Orb Rotating Display (SWORD) is a 3D rotating LED display. It takes advantage of the eye-phenomenom persistence of vision by rotating an hoop of 72 RGB LEDs at 720 RPM.

SWORD is capable of displaying pre-stored images and dynamic text sent over Bluetooth. Currently it has stored two images, the flag of Puerto Rico and the globe. The interface allows to switch back and forth between images and between image and text mode.

SWORD has two software components, its brain, that's written in Assembly for the MSP430F5438; and a GUI interface for communicating written in Java.
