Inland waterway transit scheduling so good it makes the Erie Canal feel modern
LockagePilot gives waterway authorities and barge operators a shared scheduling layer for canal lock reservations, priority queuing, and demurrage dispute resolution in real time. Draft depth telemetry integration means nobody's running aground because someone eyeballed the water level from a dock. It's basically air traffic control for boats going 4mph through a concrete ditch, and it works.
- Real-time lock reservation and priority queuing across multi-operator waterway corridors
- Demurrage dispute resolution engine handling over 340 configurable tariff rule combinations
- Native draft depth telemetry ingestion from NOAA gauges and vessel AIS transponders
- Full audit trail for every lockage event, timestamped to the second. No gaps.
- Shared scheduling layer that keeps authorities and operators looking at the same truth simultaneously

LockagePilot runs as a set of loosely coupled microservices behind a single API gateway, with each scheduling domain — reservations, telemetry, disputes — fully isolated and independently deployable. Telemetry ingestion is handled by a high-throughput event pipeline that writes to MongoDB, which keeps the transactional lockage records fast and flexible under real operational load. The priority queue engine lives in Redis for long-term state persistence across operator sessions and watchdog restarts. Everything talks over gRPC internally and exposes a clean REST surface to the outside world.
