Thank you @michaelbushe ! Can you make sure that you sign the CLA or that your email address associated with the commits is added to your CLA account? Thanks |
|
@michaelbushe please make sure the CLA bot is happy, you use 2 different email addresses on your commits and not both are covered by the CLA, that's why you get some red checkmarks @open-telemetry/android-approvers please take a look, as flutter is close to what you are working on, would be great to get some help here. |

@kevmoo @abdallahshaban557 would be great to get your view and feedback on this proposal as well, if OTel is building out a SIG around dart and flutter having your feedback would be highly appreciated.

We will check this! Thank you, @svrnm !

@svrnm I can confirm that I'll be supporting this effort and will take a look at the proposal.

@svrnm I can confirm that I'll be supporting this effort. This is my first time participating OTel bootstrapping, and from the look of this PR, this looks good 👍 🚀

I can confirm that I am supporting this effort.
I've never participated in a Otel bootstrapping effort before. But from my point of view this looks good 👍

@abdallahshaban557 thank you for taking a look into this, I think a question important for us would be, if there are any plans near term to have a first class support of OpenTelemetry in dart/flutter (that you are able to publicly speak about of course!). Some languages do that or have plans to do that, and it would have a big influence on the formation of this SIG and the donation proposal by @michaelbushe |
Hi @svrnm - I'll get back to you on that once I've chatted with the core Dart team! Appreciate all of your help and guidance here! |
|
@svrnm - we've chatted with the Dart team, we do not have plans currently of offering an API or solution specifically for Telemtry from the Dart SDK or our tooling. Which is why we are very excited about this SIG coming together to serve this need and fill the gap in our ecsosystem, especially since we are seeing significant traction for Dart across the whole stack. |
|
@abdallahshaban557 thanks for confirming! |

Call for Contributors is open now at https://opentelemetry.io/blog/2026/dart-flutter-opentelemetry/ Just to repeat the message, the goal of the call for contributors is to gather interest and see who is willing to contribute to such a SIG if established. The call for contributors is an important step towards the goal of forming the SIG, but it's not yet a green lighted project proposal, until this PR here is approved by the majority of GC members, which requires the project proposal folliwing the requirements of https://github.com/open-telemetry/community/blob/main/project-management.md, especially around staffing & sponsorship. |
|
I'm a Flutter & Dart GDE and am currently running the LGTM stack at scale. I'm interested in contributing. |
|
As a Flutter framework contributor, I’m supportive of creating a dedicated Dart and Flutter SIG for OpenTelemetry. I believe this will be valuable for the ecosystem, especially around observability, tracing, metrics, and production diagnostics for Dart and Flutter apps. Happy to support and contribute where I can. |
|
@svrnm — process nudge: this proposal has no labels yet. Could you or a maintainer add I've also just synced the branch with Thanks for all the shepherding here! |
|
@carlosalberto Would you consider being our TC sponsor? It's a natural fit with the client-side SIGs (Client Instrumentation, Browser, Kotlin). Deliverable 6 here is a Flutter instrumentation roadmap built with the Client SIG. The ask is Escalation level. We are implementing the existing spec, no OTEPs anticipated. Staffing is sufficient (eight maintainers across Dartastic, Grafana, Embrace, Ello + one independent; @robert-northmind, @benjaben, @yuzurihaaa, @muhammadkamel, @leehack confirmed here, @svrnm has volunteered as GC liaison. @abdallahshaban557 confirmed Google has no competing first-party plan. I'd be happy it discuss in a TC meeting or async. Thank you for your consideration. |
|
Ello (myself and @danexello) are here to contribute with our time to get this OpenTelemetry support in Dart properly. We will dedicate approx 4 hours/month from Ello |
|
Hi all, thank you all for your broad interest, next steps are that @open-telemetry/technical-committee and @open-telemetry/governance-committee review the proposal and decide if and how we move forward with it. If there will be any more questions or feedback we share it here. |
Just wanted to explicitly confirm that I'm aligned with what @tamirh stated. I'm interested in contributing and making this effort successful. We use both Flutter/Dart and Otel extensively at Ello, and can confirm that this SIG and associated donation promise to fill a big gap in the current ecosystem |
…ed Slack channel,
|
We talked about this at yesterday's TC call and I can be the TC escalating person.
On this front, the TC discussed that it would be very beneficial that the group starts attending the Spec calls on Tuesdays so you can start getting involved. Eventually (soon?) we'd like to get the group to do a small presentation at such call regarding the project, planned milestones, etc. |
This PR proposes the Bootstrap Dart and Flutter SIG project, as requested
by @svrnm and the GC on the donation proposal #2718 (June 3, 2026), following
project-management.md.
Per that guidance, SIG creation is separated from the donation itself, which continues on #2718 and is listed here as a deliverable of the new SIG.
Staffing: six committed maintainers across four sponsoring organizations (Mindful Software, Grafana, Embrace, Ello) plus one independent maintainer — details in the project document. Each maintainer is confirming publicly on #2718.
Help wanted: this project still needs a TC Sponsor and a
GC Liaison — volunteers (or pointers to the right people) very welcome.
