What's New

  • Cartisse has been reintroduced in this version (#11) to the Core set of fonts. It is based on XCharter. Because it is not OFL licensed, an extended copyright notice has been included as part of Cartisse. There's a dedicated repository for this one.
  • NV Charis in the Core set has been updated for visual consistency (see #11). This corrects a visual issue with i and j glyphs which was very noticeable with this version of Charis on Kobo devices.
  • NV Disleksio replaces NV OpenDyslexic in the Extra set — a more readable variant with tightened character spacing, 10% line height (down from 20%), and italics based on the slanted regular for consistency. See #10 for more information.

Any of the other fonts are mostly unchanged, but the KF versions have been processed with the latest version of kobo-font-fix.

Tip

If you are using a Kobo device and reading books purchased from the Kobo Store or reading kepub files converted via Calibre, you should download the Kobo Collection (kobo-core-fonts.zip, kobo-extra-fonts.zip), which has fonts slightly altered for optimal kerning for the kepub renderer.

Learn more

For more information about the fonts, screenshots and how to install them, please consult the README. The FAQ also includes an entry on how to enable ligatures on Kobo devices, which is highly recommended.

License

Due to the nature of the OFL/libre licensing of the fonts, you may find these or the original fonts also excellent for embedding in your digital books in lieu of a commercial font, which may be prohibitively expensive to license if you wish to distribute your own epub files.

More info about licensing information can be found in the FAQ, which is part of the README.
