what we envision the game experience to be like

game basics

resources

resources are required to create things and do actions within the game. there are two types of resources:

  • minerals
  • energy

minerals are used to build any physical "thing" in the game. minerals are not renewable and are obtained by finding resource deposits and constructing collector buildings.

mineral resource deposits contain a fixed number of resource units, which can be collected at a maximum rate depending on the efficiency of the resource collectors.

energy represents economic currency. it is also consumed for producing things along with minerals. energy is used for things such as upgrading cities and buildings and for investing in research.

energy is obtained via buildings (of various tiers and technology levels) such as water power, wind power, solar panels, coal plants and nuclear reactors.

(side note, perhaps we should just call these "generators" and have Generator I,II,III etc. representing technology level)

eras

the game is split into three eras, "Low Tech," "Mid Tech," and "High Tech. each era provides a free massive technology boost and serves to somewhat equalize any advantage of one player over the other. (design ideas?)
