The Babel plugin babel-plugin-transform-import-meta currently declares @babel/core@"^7.10.0" as a peer dependency, which causes ERESOLVE errors when installing alongside @babel/core@8.x.

There are two PRs open on the plugin repo (javiertury/babel-plugin-transform-import-meta#33, javiertury/babel-plugin-transform-import-meta#32) to update the Babel dependencies to 8.x, we can wait for these to be fixed before upgrading Babel to 8.x on our side. 7.x is still maintained so there is no rush to upgrade.

An alternate would be to get rid of the babel-plugin-transform-import-meta, however for our Jest tests we would need to switch Jest to native ESM mode. This is still experimental and could require a heaver lift/refactor.

Closing this for now and we can check in with the babel-plugin-transform-import-meta next time.
