Description: The code at src/files.c:302 uses sprintf() to format a prompt string containing data read from a lock file (lockuser, lockprog, pidstring). A malicious lock file can contain arbitrarily long username or program name fields. When these are formatted into promptstr via sprintf without bounds checking, a stack buffer overflow occurs that can overwrite the return address.

Evidence

Exploitation scenario: An attacker with write access to the directory where the victim edits files creates a malicious .swp-style lock file with an extremely long username field (e.g., 4096 bytes).

Scanner confirmation: multi_agent_ai rule V-001 flagged this pattern.

Production code: This file is in the production codebase, not test-only code.
