The integrity of a semantic system is inversely proportional to the rate at which its provenance-bearing relations are severed during transmission.

Provenance is converted into a thermodynamic variable: meaning transport may be high while provenance integrity is low, and accountable transport requires both. This is what makes Layer 1 (field-theoretic) and Layer 3 (political-economic) one discipline.
