FRED Social Media Analytics
FRED SOMEA is a research-oriented toolkit for preserving and analyzing social media content.
It is built to support transparency, accountability, and education by enabling researchers, NGOs, and investigative journalists to preserve digital evidence and study social media networks in a responsible way.
Social media platforms have become critical spaces where public debate, activism, and disinformation all unfold. Yet the content shared there is fragile—posts can be deleted, accounts suspended, and narratives erased. This creates serious challenges for journalists, researchers, and human rights defenders who need reliable ways to preserve and analyze digital activity.
FRED SOMEA exists to address this gap. It provides a responsible framework for capturing social media content, ensuring its integrity through cryptographic proofs, and enabling ethical analysis of networks and narratives. The goal is not surveillance, but accountability—empowering civil society to preserve truth in the digital age.
FRED SOMEA provides tools to:
- Preserve social media posts and stories in tamper-proof formats.
- Analyze networks of interactions (followers, comments, likes).
- Document disinformation, harassment networks, and online mobilization.
- Support academic and civil society research into digital narratives.
FRED SOMEA is designed for accountability, research, and education. Its intended uses include:
- Preserving fragile online content for future reference.
- Studying disinformation campaigns and coordinated networks.
- Documenting human rights abuses and public-interest activity.
It must not be used for:
- Stalking or harassing individuals.
- Collecting private or non-consensual data.
- Surveillance for oppressive or harmful purposes.
We encourage users to follow established ethical OSINT guidelines (such as those from Bellingcat or Citizen Lab).
FRED SOMEA is part of the FRED (Fahera Research, Education & Development) initiative.
Our guiding principles are:
- Transparency – source-available and auditable software.
- Integrity – cryptographic proof of captured content.
- Accountability – empowering civil society to document and investigate.
- Sustainability – fair-code licensing to balance openness with long-term viability.
This project is licensed under the Sustainable Use License (SUL).
- Free for personal, educational, and non-commercial research.
- A commercial license is required for SaaS offerings, embedding in commercial products, or monetized distribution.
