Two-round writing audit across all seven English files, plus a targeted sweep, removing AI-sounding mannerisms while preserving authorial voice.

Changes

  • Mechanical contrasts: reduced not X but Y / isn't X; it's Y to at most one per section; rest converted to plain declaratives.
  • Staccato fragments: cut the Not X. Not Y. sentence-fragment device book-wide, including the cross-book "Not humanity in the abstract / Not society as a whole / You" refrain (intro, ch5, conclusion) and the intro's "Not definitely. Not can't. Probably shouldn't."
  • Other tells: trimmed throat-clearing openers, unearned adverbs, escalation signposts, and Tier-1 vocabulary.
  • Style note: updated CLAUDE.md key-phrases list so the title's calibration intent (probably not definitely, shouldn't not can't) survives as guidance without protecting the fragment-stack cadence that prompted the audit.

Preserved

Single inline not because…, but… fragments that read as normal prose; one strongest contrast per section; humor beats, named analogies, the title-emphasis device, and the conclusion's intentional anaphora runs.

Guarantees

No facts, figures, citations, or footnotes altered. Zero em dashes. Zero remaining staccato Not X. Not Y. stacks (verified by grep).
