MLKickstartProjections

This project encapsulates our team's comprehensive effort for the BAIT 509 course within the Master of Business Analytics program at the UBC Sauder School of Business, focusing on the predictive modeling of Kickstarter campaign outcomes using advanced machine learning techniques.

Project Overview:

Our core aim was to harness machine learning to predict the success of Kickstarter campaigns by analyzing a multitude of factors, including project features, funding objectives, and prevailing market dynamics. The project explores various data preprocessing techniques, feature engineering, and model selection to achieve optimal performance. The project compares several machine learning models, including Decision Trees, Random Forests, and Naive Bayes classifiers, to establish a baseline and benchmark performance. A particular focus is given to model interpretability and computational efficiency, making the Decision Tree model the choice for deployment.

Data Utilized:

We leveraged one principal datasets: 'ks-projects-201801.csv', containing detailed attributes of numerous Kickstarter campaigns which provides insights into broader market behaviors affecting these campaigns. This combination enabled a robust analysis, blending traditional statistical methods with cutting-edge machine learning algorithms.

Included Files:

  • ML_Analysis.ipynb: A comprehensive Jupyter notebook divided into sections for exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model training/testing, and outcome prediction.
  • Project_Report.pdf: A detailed document that walks through the methodology, data preprocessing, model selection, and analysis results, enriched with insightful visuals and charts.

The project was brought to fruition through the collaborative efforts of Christi Mariam Denny, Daksh Arora, Robbie Wu and Xuhua Luo, leveraging our diverse backgrounds and expertise in data science and analytics.
