KiCAD Themes

A collection of schematic colour themes for KiCAD, designed for long design sessions and be easy on the eyes. The light and dark themes are inspired by popular code editor palettes (Nord Arctic, Gruvbox Warm Dark, Tokyo Night, Rosé Pine Moon, Monokai Vivid), industry EDA tools (Altium, DesignSpark, Eagle, Multisim, OrCAD and PADS), and original designs of my own making — all carefully crafted to ensure every schematic element is clearly visible against its background.

Installation:

Close KiCAD if it's open, then copy any .json file into your KiCAD colours directory:

  • Linux: ~/.config/kicad//colors/
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\kicad<version>\colors\
  • macOS: ~/Library/Preferences/kicad//colors/

Run KiCAD then select the theme under Preferences → Preferences → Schematic Editor → Colors

Themes were all tested on KiCAD 9.0.8 and 10.0
