- Decoupling - clear boundaries, explicit contracts, no hidden dependencies
- Single source of truth - one place per fact, held there by structure rather than convention
- Validate at the boundary - fail fast on bad input; the core trusts its data
- Lineage and traceability - every number can answer for itself, in the audit or the boardroom
- Idempotency - operations safe to retry; a 2am failure is a re-run, not an incident
- Security and compliance - authN/authZ and audit trails as foundations, not bolt-ons
