@dct I've seen your code. I feel that's good idea. But...
What do you use as frontend? plsense.el?
I have the following concern about the situation using plsense.el.

plsense.el uses auto-complete.el to show code completion candidates and its help.
auto-complete.el runs 'ahelp' command automatically to get the help if Emacs idles while the candidates are shown.
Then, I'm afraid slowness might be happen because child process is created for 'perldoc'.
