Maybe the less-nuclear option than removing all files. We'll still mark the repo as archived. WDYT, @otherdaniel ?

Either way works. :)

Given that we didn't update the explainer to the current API shape, I feel a little bad about leaving that online. Once the spec is removed the remainder doesn't have all that much value, IMHO.

A precedent I found is Navigation API. They largely left the README.md and most metadata files alone, but removed the spec in favour of a tombstone.

Given our setup with GitHub Actions and publication on the gh-pages branch, I would have removed the .github folder and commit the tombstone directly to gh-pages.

Oh, I like precedent actually... :) and yes, people might still deep-link into the explainer.

I'll revise this on Monday (unless you want to push your archival branch again, which shows as deleted on github).
