I just found time to review this. While I think that the code itself is good, I don't want to merge it for the following reasons:

  • Personally, I am going to continue to use LuaLaTeX over PDFLaTeX for better forward compatability and font support.
  • I don't want to switch to make (or stu :D) over latexmk because latexmk is integrated into my vim configuration and is better cross plattform.

However, since you have commit rights anyway and this is not really a serious project would you be ok with having your code on a separate "pdflatex" branch?
