Additions:

  • add map lock icon for main map as well so you can know where the locks are
  • Asai now runs away when you talk to him if he hates you
  • Make arrow chase "keep going" option take less time if you're in a room instead of an open area
  • Add a new "flee" option if you encounter someone when waiting

Fixes:

  • Fix picking up items from floor and replacing one of your items actually extending your inventory to a 5th slot, preventing you from accessing the items screen again
  • Fix error in mansion when you game over
  • Fix a cutscene character not having proper window padding
  • Properly kill everyone besides Shinobu in one of the possible endings
  • Fix characters not being able to move into rooms
  • Fix "open" action not being available for when the game prompts you to open the bag (if "always_act" option is off)
  • Adjust arrow chase scene to make sense in any location, Remove mention of "trees" during arrow attack (it may take place in any area, potentially!)
  • Make "takes the opportunity to get rid of you" text not override the _talk or _intro jumps to not break campaign scripts/flags
  • Fix people stumbling into you sleeping/waiting breaking the game, and killing them not resulting in their proper label firing off
  • Fix Yoriko and Ai not listing you as enemies for the purposes of some scripts/checks
  • Fix teacher's room shunting you to the hallway instead of back in the classroom
  • Fix Ikoma killing Emi convo not playing music and showing Ikoma bloodied prematurely

Additions:

  • Change folllower reaction dialog to be more informative, instead informing you that the followers WILL react and you can lose them if you act unjust
  • Auto-equip follower's weapon if you trade your own equipped weapon for it
  • Only enable rollback if devmode is enabled
  • Allow creation of a blank "devmode" file as a way to enable devmode easily, even in shipped builds
  • If "always_act" is off, only allow using items when you can interact with the location inventory, outside of battles
  • Reduce sanity when you enter a forbidden zone even of your own volition
  • Introduce a new bath house sequence if you scare off Hitomo from the bridge
  • Make move_to_grid func more versatile, giving you control if time should pass and ability to define a jump post-movement

Fixes:

  • Remove the "you cannot trade equipped weapons" subtitle (it's a lie)
  • Fix "forbidden zone" movement not triggering a cutscene (leading to you seeing items on the ground, which lets you interrupt the sequence)
  • Fix Kenji triggering follower murder dialog, resulting in a double-up on follower commentary
  • If the location you're in becomes a forbidden zone, use the move_to_grid function instead of manually setting the loc
  • on forbidden zone game over sequence, check if the classmate is in a fz and kill 'em, rather than just the current loc
  • when Fleeing from Ikoma, use move_to_grid and don't do anything extra
  • If Hitomo is in your enemies, fix Hitomo triggering her own death label when you talk to her but don't attack her
  • Fix cutscene func hiding the gui when it's not supposed to
  • Fix trading items with followers that also exist in the loc permanently destroying them
  • Fix a few bugs with the bathhouse sequence when Hitomo is not around
  • Fix "from_floor" setting not propagating if your inventory is full
  • Fix chopping wood wasting the wood on the floor

Additions:

  • Allow FULL control over music if battle music is disabled (meaning music won't stop even if combat ends)
  • Restore the full "ALongDay" song and only use it in the boat boss rush sequence
  • Improve suicide sequence by checking followers instead of party

Fixes:

  • Fix "classmates" list being referenced for people who are friends with everyone, resulting in removing someone from their friends list actually removing them from the global classmates list
  • fix redundant for loop for moving your avatar with you
  • Fix Mari/Jun stacking on top of themselves after reacting to justified self defense in some rare scenarios
  • Fix Kei showing up even if dead during hospital sequence if you have no party members
  • Fix boat boss rush triggering even if all of its combatants are already dead
  • Fix quick save button being clickable in the main menu
  • No longer consider foe advantage as "justified" for party members to assist (after all, that foe could be trying to protect their friend)
  • Fix Takeshi moving around even after you give him the GPS
  • Fix "we were going to come back for you" dialogue being screwy
  • Fix allies helping you when Nanako spits at your feet (she's still defenseless!!)
  • Fix Yuki straight up not reacting to the bath house massacre
  • Fix Nanako fleeing not hiding her sprite
  • Fix murdering Yuki not giving any reactions from others

...Maybe there should be a generic murder reaction for all characters???

Additions:

  • If you find Mari dead, Shinobu will piece together the killer depending on circumstances
  • Also reduce sanity for witnessing the dead body, and add a bit more dramatic flair
  • Show murder info if stats are unredacted (end game)
  • Shinobu will now be marked as "LOST" on the stats screen after a game over
  • Combat game over properly attributes the killer with murdering you
  • Forbidden Zone game overs also properly update the stats screen

Fixes:

  • make death_list only append if not already present in death list
  • Fix death list not being cleared between game starts
  • Fix Kenji weapon name reference causing the game to error
  • Fix Jun dialog causing errors if Kei is dead and Fumie alive for the hospital sequence
  • Fix Fumie coming back from the dead for the hospital sequence
  • Fix Marie responding to you on the radio if you hide from Kenji, then bump into him later
  • Fix follower reaction dialogue triggering when you're alone (it was goofy lol)

Additions:

  • Check for keys across all relevant inventories (loc and party member inventories) to reduce inventory management
  • Make the campaign medicine check all relevant inventories as well
  • Reduce 25 sanity for cannibalism and make party members react negatively to witnessing it, even if the trapped person was hostile.
  • Add the final stats screen pop up after completing the game or dying
  • Restore NPC battling functionality for deathmatch mode and add it as a setting

Fixes:

  • Change event priorities so if Ai and Hitomo are in the same location, find hitomo event fires first
  • Fix Yuki/Nanako Dead events triggering even if there should be no one to speak
  • Fix follower reaction triggering even if party member is not present in the location
  • If you battle a party member, they stop being one, and they stop being your follower as well
  • Fix Lucy moving around when she's not supposed to (she starts at the Bathhouse and current Bathhouse events assume she's present)
  • Calling destroy() on an item will correctly remove it from loc/NPC inventory as well
  • Fix healing Jun with medicine breaking the game because the medicine name was referenced after it was destroyed
  • Fix party members not reacting to murder in front of them if they were simply told to "wait"
  • Fix school emi ambush not being a cutscene
  • Fix Jun death not being labelled as a murder, making it appear as "suicide" in the stats screen and not attributing the kill to the killer
  • Your followers should no longer be caught in your traps, even if you tell them to "wait here"
  • Kill Goro in deathmatch mode so it's actually winnable (removing him from classmates did not reduce the effective player number, causing to the mode being unwinnable)
  • Fix trap not dropping the loot of your victim if you insta-kill them from afar
  • Use the correct kill() argument for Goro campaign intro death ("fz" for forbidden zone)
  • Fix npc battle script error for weapon trading (script's a mess and needs overhauling tho, not even sure how functional it is)

🎇This is a major milestone release!🎇

Hopefully achieving stability and fixing numerous bugs, the game should also be capable of handling the numerous new features and additional challenges imposed, such as shoe start, can't always act, and NPCs move around more! It really livens up the game and adds variety after your first campaign play-through.

The changes since last release are:

Additions:

  • Add the KFO logo and website link
  • Allow you to unset the placed trap
  • Enemy loses sanity from failed attempts to flee and from using the Wait action
  • Add a last-man-standing Pacifist ending variation (no attributed kills)
  • Add a "silent" add_sanity setting, which adds/removes sanity without playing the sound
  • Affect sanity in a few more campaign situations
  • Let you tie up Ai in the Bath House if you have rope during the locker shootout scene
  • Make Yuki and Nanako aware of each other's deaths, even if they don't find the body (after all they have the computer pads)

Fixes:

  • Fix trapping someone causing only Yuki to move around, and not the trapped person
  • Fix telling Takeshi about the boat causing the event as if you lied to fire off instead
  • Fix AI never leaving the rooms they're inside of if they ever enter them
  • Fix game bugging out if Jun or Mari don't have any item in the item slot when the game checks if they have medicine on them

This release fixes a critical saving bug if you opened the Items menu at any point in your run!

  • Fix using the items interface at any point causing your game to shift into a "pocket dimension", bricking your save file and preventing you from saving for that run.
    SO YAH A FEW LINES OF CODE BRICKED EVERYONE'S SAVES IF THEY EVER OPENED THE ITEMS MENU. IT IS NOW FIXED.

Additions:

  • Enable rollback again, however block rollback on character deaths to prevent associated bugs
  • Fix using the items interface at any point causing your game to shift into a "pocket dimension", bricking your save file and preventing you from saving for that run.
    SO YAH THESE FEW LINES OF CODE BRICKED EVERYONE'S SAVES IF THEY EVER OPENED THE ITEMS MENU. I forgot why I even put it there but if you couldn't save your game after a certain point, this is why :(

Fixes:

  • Fix using the items interface at any point causing your game to shift into a "pocket dimension", bricking your save file and preventing you from saving for that run.
  • Add a few "break"s in inventory for loops so we don't continue parsing through a modified list (very dangerous to do so)
  • Fix Jun mentioned when he's not present
  • Fix your followers not reacting to you killing the trapped person
  • Fix "allowed_to_act" logic being inconsistent
  • Fix "Battling" not being set to "False" on non-lethal combat end (fleeing, etc.)

WARNING: This release is not compatible with your previous save data!

The default save directory was changed from deathgame-1313682820 to WinTheGame_saves in your %AppData%/RenPy folder. Transferring the saves over may cause corruption so do so at your own risk!

Additions:

  • Add some more missing cutscene flags
  • Fix a typo where Kenji attacks you causes the game to error
  • disable default renpy auto save due to potential save corruption from it
  • Add quick save/quick load buttons to the main menu

Fixes:

  • Fix trade character being Mari and not Jun when you trade items with him
  • If always_act is false, fix not being allowed to act unless your health was 0!!
  • fix game over sequence breaking your skipping
  • fix missing cutscene from murder follower reaction
  • Fix surviving the game over sequence if you're on death's door
  • Fix wrong defense/healing values being used when trading items w/ followers

Additions:

  • Fix version number not being up to date (0.8.6 incorrectly appears as 0.8.5 currently)
  • add +5 to all bars so having 1 hp still shows a sliver of the bar to give you more useful info
  • Add a death's door mechanic - if your health reaches 0, the game gives you an opportunity to heal yourself.
  • Additionally, add a Prefs option "always act". When off, it stops you from using items, healing, etc. in battles or when your health is 0 (effectively disabling the Death's Door mechanic)
  • Make sanity affect the chance of your followers helping you in battle
  • Reduce sanity slightly for every successful party member assist
  • Stop skipping during battle during major events so you don't miss critical info
  • Fix Shoot Back at Yoriko option breaking the game if you use a low tier weapon (like a slingshot)
  • Make game over screen block skipping for a bit so you can't literally skip past the game over screen and not realize you died

Fixes:

  • fix bayonet breaking the game when it runs out of ammo
  • Fix the game saying Kenji is using knives, even though he could be using a revolver instead
  • Fix running away putting you across the bridge even if it's locked
  • If you successfully run away but all the locations are invalid, you'll just be put back in your area

Additions:

  • Add an ability for kill() command to also drop the victim's loot on the ground
  • Make Tetsuo a "fixed" type so he just chills out in the forest
  • Add a new attribute to locs - "forest", which allows the player to chop wood if they have an axe. Chopping wood takes 3 hours.
  • Mari will talk you out of suicide and restore a bit of your sanity. However, her own sanity will plummet. Jun will also improve your sanity in the same sequence, slightly. Mari will still jump with you if her sanity is 50 or less.
  • Your party members will lose sanity if battle they're part of ends with a death
  • Make Yoriko "shoot back" option always available and only check if you have a weapon to do so with once you click on it (this allows you to equip/unequip items to adjust for the choice)
  • Make most campaign event kills actually leave loot behind rather than permanently destroying it
  • If you run from Kenji, you should still be able to execute the "Find Mari" sequence. Additionally, Kenji dialog before attacking you will be different if Mari is with you.
  • In Asai and Tetsuo sequence, give you the ability to actually threaten Asai to return the axe. If your wielded weapon is stronger than his, he'll give it up, letting you return it to Tetsuo. That way, you have a non-lethal resolution to the conflict without being forced to flee.
  • let both Jun and Mari respond to you attacking Ikoma
  • Nerf NPC idle sanity recovery slightly
  • Add ability to drop items from your inventory, when you can also pick them up from the area
  • omg don't heckin block rollback right when you enter a forbidden zone with low sanity lol it's mega mean
  • But also -- rollback is now disabled unless you're a developer. :^)
  • Recover sanity for your allies when you sleep, as well as improving your own sanity recovery with a bigger party.
  • Allow trading an item for nothing and unify the trading interface between Mari and Jun
  • Make it clearer which grid tile you're rowing your boat towards (left = D5, right = E5)
  • Add a bit more effects to getting shot down by gatlings
  • "An arrow suddenly pierces you" dialog wasn't accompanied by actually hurting you. Now it is.
  • Make c4 and d4 have a security camera when you first enter the area to give at least some telegraphing where you're NOT supposed to put the boat
  • Add a battle property "allies_will_help" which should allow an easy way to identify friend-or-foe
  • Set allies to help you in battles where you're attacked or are otherwise justified in defending yourself. Your allies will now fight on your side to defend the boat
  • If you tell the truth that you found the boat to Takeshi but it is no longer in the shed, the "liar" sequence will commence instead as it works in this context too. (this accounts for repairing the boat and hiding it somewhere else)
  • Add ability to set jumps if you flee or your enemy flees (code)
  • Expand on Asai/Tetsuo scenes to properly account for the ability to flee.
  • Unlock the scene of finding Tetsuo murdered if you have met him but you leave him behind somehow (fleeing?)

Fixes:

  • For grid/room movement only call "say_people_here" label once, right before showing the menus, so it doesn't interfere with events
  • Fix moving to a new area giving you a brief window to interact with items, see bodies, etc. before you're supposed to
  • wait here/follow me options no longer rely on hard-coded flags, but instead the "in party"/"in follower" checks
  • Fix Mari saying "You came back." even though you JUST told her to wait
  • Replace "x_hates_you" flags with simple "in enemies" check
  • party_add no longer auto-adds them to your followers (like in Kenji's case)
  • use party_add and follower_add where applicable, instead of manually modifying the array
  • Fix the item's stack resetting when you drop the added item when your inventory is full
  • Replace "moving boat" flag with simple check if boat is in inventory
  • Fix BOAT DUPLICATON GLITCH, if your inventory is full refusing to pick up the boat won't drop it on the ground
  • Fix being able to trade your boat to your party members
  • fix label shed_boat_move forcibly moving you if you have both Mari and Jun in your location, actually resulting in a net loss of time than if you were just with one of them alone
