FerrumPix 0.9.0
0.9.0
Editor
- Film negatives. Scanned negatives can be turned into positives, orange mask and all. The film base is
measured from the image automatically, or you can pick it from the unexposed film edge with the eyedropper.
There is a black-and-white mode for B&W film and a gradation slider for the contrast. You'll find it in
Adjust, below the tone curve. Exposure, white balance and the tone curve then work on the finished positive. - Cropping works in pixels. The edge sliders and their input fields are in pixels of the image now, not in
percent, so you can crop to an exact size. - Text can be much larger: up to 5000 px instead of 500.
Gallery
- Apply a filter to many photos at once. Right-click a selection, pick Apply filter…, and choose a
built-in filter, a Lightroom preset (.xmp) or a LUT (.cube). Either overwrite the originals or write new
files into a folder or to Immich with the name of the preset added to the file name. - A menu button in the footer, next to Select all. It opens the same menu as a right-click on a photo,
which is where most of the batch functions live by now.
Faster
- The glow on text and shapes no longer pins the CPU. On a large text it dropped from ten seconds per preview
to under two tenths of a second, and it looks the same. - Noise reduction and dust & scratches react immediately now — the median filter is around 45 times faster,
with pixel-identical results. - Typing in the search box no longer rebuilds the whole folder view with every letter.
Fixed
- Pasting a selection in the gallery created two copies of every photo instead of one.
- A preview that failed used to report Preview ready and leave the old image on screen, so a broken tool
looked exactly like a working one. It now says so, in red. - The selection frame around a text object sat next to the text rather than around it, the more so the
larger the text. It follows the actual text box now. - The mouse wheel barely moved a slider. It stepped by a fraction of the range, so the shadow sliders in
particular hardly reacted. It steps in whole units now — except where fine control is the point, such as
straightening, which keeps hundredths of a degree. - The shadow's light angle drifted while you dragged the offsets. It was derived from them and got
recomputed from rounded values; it is kept as it is set now. - In the search and Immich trees, the expanded/collapsed state was bound to a property that did not exist.
0.8.0
Immich
- Browse a self-hosted Immich server. With a server URL and API key configured, an
Immich section appears in the gallery's navigation panel, with All photos and one entry per album. Photos
stream in as they arrive, and thumbnails are cached locally so scrolling back doesn't hit the network again.
Tested against Immich v3. - Ratings, favourites and keywords sync both ways between FerrumPix and the server.
- Search lists can search Immich, using its semantic search where available.
- Create and rename albums, and upload photos from the Immich context menu.
- Copy/paste and drag & drop move photos between local folders and Immich, in both directions — including
drag & drop with external file managers. - View and edit Immich photos, with the whole album in the filmstrip. The editor opens a downloaded copy in
save-as-only mode, so an edit is never silently written over the temp file. Save as can put the result back
into Immich as a new asset — Immich cannot replace an original in place. - Settings gain an Integration section: server URL, API key, and a Test connection button.
Gallery
- Delete now moves to the trash instead of deleting permanently. Two settings turn that off if you want it.
If the trash is genuinely unavailable, the delete fails with a message rather than quietly deleting for good. - "Overwrite all" and "Skip all" in the file-conflict dialog, so a hundred name clashes are one decision.
- A badge marks an embedded ICC colour profile, and hovering it names the profile.
- The metadata overlays show what you can actually search for. They used to list whatever the metadata
reader returned first — for a JPEG that meant compression type and data precision, while camera, aperture and
ISO never made the cut. - Fixed: RAW files lost aperture, ISO, exposure time and lens — not just on screen, but in search and
filters. The values were in the file but never reached the catalogue, so every RAW dropped out of an ISO or
aperture filter. - Fixed: some phone photos had no focal length at all.
Editor
- Free selection with four modes: rectangle, ellipse, freehand lasso, and magic wand. Copy a selection into
a movable object, or fill it. - A selection now scopes the adjustment tools. With a selection in place, colour, filters, effects, curves
and the rest apply only inside it. Applying a crop, resize or rotate clears the selection. - The 8-band HSL mixer gains a luminance slider per band. Hue and saturation were adjustable, brightness
was not — so a preset asking for "greens −35" simply lost that part. - Brightness, contrast and exposure no longer clip. They ran through a hard-clipped linear curve: contrast
at full travel crushed a fifth of the pixels to pure black or white, and +1 EV burnt 44 % of a normally
exposed photo to flat white. They now bend smoothly towards black and white and keep their drawing. Both also
reach further than before. - Fixed: the Structure slider did nothing.
- Fixed: Dust and scratches did nothing above about a third of the slider — 50 and 100 produced identical
images. - Fixed: Noise and Grain produced nearly the same result. Noise is coloured sensor noise now, grain is
monochrome film grain. - Fixed: Clarity was barely distinguishable from Structure.
- Fixed: Lightroom presets lost their white balance and their HSL luminance, and ignored the parametric tone
curve — so a preset that built its look on any of those arrived incomplete. - An ICC tab in the info sidebar, next to General/EXIF/IPTC/XMP.
Localization
- All new strings are covered in German, English, Spanish, French and Italian.
0.7.0
Platform
- Moved to AvaloniaUI 12. This fixes two long-standing Linux defects that came from the framework: copying
files to a file manager handed over an empty list, so Dolphin aborted every paste, and drag & drop with other
applications did not exist at all on X11. - Replaced the LibVLC Avalonia control with our own, because the package does not survive the upgrade.
LibVLC itself stays. - Fixed: tone curves and the Highlights/Shadows/Whites/Blacks sliders were broken by a SkiaSharp upgrade and
silently did nothing. - The image pipeline now uses all cores. On a large image the base pipeline went from about 1.8 s to 0.3 s,
with byte-identical output.
Viewer
- Fixed: the interface froze once a video ran in fullscreen — the video window swallowed every click and key
stroke, and in fullscreen it covers everything, so only the window manager could still close the program. - Fixed: a finished video could not be played again, and leaving fullscreen left the last frame distorted on
screen. - F11 toggles fullscreen in every mode.
Editor
- Rulers and a pixel grid, with draggable guides and a configurable grid size. Both remember their state.
- An Insert image button — clicking into the canvas is no longer required.
- Every paint tool keeps its own settings. Switching tools handed the new one whatever the previous one was
set to. - Fixed: Shapes and symbols stalled when opened. All 4185 icons were built up front; only what is on
screen is built now. - The eraser's properties group is no longer empty, group headers name the active tool, and the colour mixer got
tighter (the eyedropper now previews the colour under the pointer).
Gallery
- Fixed: the grid stayed empty on start for the folder it opened, until you switched folders and came back.
- The favourite heart sits behind the rating stars in the footer, and one click sets the whole selection.
0.6.0
Editor
- Clone stamp tool. Alt+click sets the source; the offset holds for the whole stroke, and a dashed ring
marks the sampling point. - A colour mixer in the insert panel: colour wheel, fill/background swatches with a swap gesture, stroke
colour, opacity, hex input and an eyedropper. - Fixed: a newly selected object took over the previous object's properties — colour, rotation, gradient,
shadow and glow all bled across. - Fixed: cropping is repeatable. A second crop composes into the first instead of replacing it, and zoom and
pan re-fit afterwards. - Fixed: clicking the canvas snapped back to the brush tool.
- Fixed: retouching did not mark the image as modified, so anyone who only retouched left the editor without
being asked to save — and lost the work. - Fixed: hidden layers could still be selected by clicking the canvas.
- Fixed: watermark offsets may be negative, for all nine anchors.
- Fixed: a full preview bitmap leaked whenever a render was cancelled by the next one — which happens on
every slider drag. - Retouching and dragging objects are markedly faster, and the history no longer floods with one entry per mouse
move.
Settings
- Font scale, in whole steps, applied immediately without a restart.
- Fixed: Cancel discarded too much. It also reverted what had been changed elsewhere in the meantime.
- Fixed:
settings.jsonis written atomically. A crash mid-save left a truncated file that discarded all
