Since the conversion of the strings in the MGF files to floating point numbers takes quite a bit of time, could we add an option (off by default) to convert m/z values and/or intensities to integers? The m/z values could also be multiplied by 10, 100 or 1000 (corresponding to bin sizes of 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 m/z units respectively)? It may speed up things a bit, and interested in any case, perhaps also for specialized hardware?
