⚡ Optimize MicrotubuleTorus with InstancedMesh#71
Hidden character warning
Conversation
- Refactor MicrotubuleTorus to use THREE.InstancedMesh. - Use useFrame to update instance matrices efficiently. - Use a single THREE.Object3D for matrix calculations. - Set instanceMatrix.needsUpdate = true for GPU updates. - Reduces theoretical draw calls from ~1082 to ~4. 💡 What: Refactored the
MicrotubuleToruscomponent inQuantumScene.tsxto useTHREE.InstancedMeshinstead of individualMeshcomponents for each cube.🎯 Why: Rendering hundreds of individual meshes was causing excessive draw calls (over 1000 per frame). Using
InstancedMeshallows the GPU to render all instances in a single draw call per torus, significantly improving performance.📊 Measured Improvement: Theoretically reduced draw calls from approximately 1082 to 4 (a >99% reduction in scene graph overhead for the torus structures). The implementation also minimizes garbage collection by using a reusable
THREE.Object3Dfor matrix calculations within the animation loop.PR created automatically by Jules for task 17679787916180588361 started by @jason420247
