Se corrige el código alternativo si se quiere que el método insert espere respuesta de MongoDB, ya que se estaba llamando el método insert con la variable que instanciaba el objeto mongo de la conexión ( $connection ) y no con la variable que instanciaba la colección ( $collection ). También se cambia el primer arreglo que se le pasa como parámetro al método insert por el que veníamos usando ( $article ), así se seguirán almacenando los datos ingresados por el usuario.
