I’m the developer of Maplat, a software project for working with nonlinear pictorial and historical maps.

Because we need to support arbitrary projections, we have relied on OpenLayers for many years. At the same time, I’ve been hoping to move to MapLibre, but its lack of support for arbitrary projections has always been a major challenge for us.

This is exactly the kind of project I’ve been looking for.

I’m looking forward to examining it closely and hopefully using it in our work.

I've definitely got some concurrency issues lurking beneath that are being masked silently that are probably really hurting throughput. I should have in the next weeks some updated releases of its underlying dependencies -- I need to better coordinate between what is being projected and what is being modified with geometric operations. My initial attempts to orchestrate coordination with the two are creating some race conditions I'm still debugging. I don't think any of this will change the overall API, but it should help things work more efficiently.
