Hammered/plucked string taps #37

Description

@jonikorpi

These have a distinctive low-frequency tap sound at the start of the note. (Also other kinds of noisy parts, but I think I’ve approximated enough of them with attackDetune and attackNoise.)

Whenever I try to add it, the result sounds off. Is it worth it to keep trying? Does a digital instrument trying to approximate the spirit of a real instrument need these particular sounds?

  • piano (100 hz in Logic Pro?)
  • hammered dulcimer (250 hz in Logic Pro?)
  • harp (300 hz in Logic Pro?)
  • guitar (200 hz in Logic Pro?)

  • initial key noise, finger tap: 290 and 445 Hz, lasts 20–30ms, weak, more audible at low velocity
  • later key/hammer noise: 914 hz, 10–20ms attack, strong
  • also body, soundboard, and keybed noises: 38, 100 and 250 Hz (xylophone-like?)

Guitar details: https://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/p/pod/dod-idx/synthesis-of-transients-in-guitar-sounds.pdf?c=icmc&format=pdf&idno=bbp2372.1997.051

  • body tap: 104, ~562 (5.4x), and ~780 (7.5x) hz
