After installing and studying the relevant cases, I noticed that the OpenFOAM version being used is OF8. Are there other OpenFOAM versions available in the container, such as OF1712 (e.g., OpenFOAM v1712)? If so, how can I access or switch to these versions? If not, is it possible to perform a custom installation of a specific OpenFOAM version?

Hi @123hexi ,

Currently, DRLinFluids is developed and tested based on OpenFOAM v8, and we have not implemented compatibility support for other versions (that's the reason why we provide container not a regular python package). From our experience, OpenFOAM versions often introduce significant changes in dictionary structures and keyword definitions. These differences can cause incompatibility issues and potentially lead to DRLinFluids not functioning as intended on versions other than OF8.

The most straightforward solution is to port your case to OpenFOAM v8, which will ensure full compatibility and proper functionality.

Alternatively, if you'd like to work with a different OpenFOAM version (e.g., v1712), you may customize the regular expression rules accordingly. A good place to start would be the actions2dict and dict2foam functions in utils.py, which handle the conversion between DRL actions and OpenFOAM dictionaries.

We warmly welcome contributions, feel free to submit a PR if you develop compatibility for other OpenFOAM versions. It would be a valuable addition to the project!

Hi Qiulei , Thank you for your reply. I am currently working on modifying the actions2dict and dict2foam functions in utils.py as mentioned in your response. If I want to test the modified code in the DRL container using OpenFOAM v1712, I currently only know how to access OpenFOAM v8 via the of8 command. Could you please advise me on how to set up a working OpenFOAM environment for version v1712 within the DRL container? ​​ Looking forward to your response so that​ I can contribute to this project! Hi Hexi,

Thanks for your willingness to contribute to this repo. Here are the steps to follow:

After ensuring Singularity is installed correctly, use the following command to build a writable directory representation of the image:

sudo singularity build --sandbox DRLinFluids/ DRLinFluids.sif

This will create a directory named DRLinFluids/ that you can modify.

Access the sandbox in writable mode:

sudo singularity shell --writable DRLinFluids/

Inside this shell, you can install OpenFOAM v1712 and any dependencies just as you would on a standard Ubuntu system.

Once you have completed your testing and are satisfied with the changes, exit the shell and repackage the modified sandbox back into a SIF file:

sudo singularity build DRLinFluids-repack.sif DRLinFluids/

This creates a new SIF image file (DRLinFluids-repack.sif) that includes your OpenFOAM v1712 setup and any code modifications.
