@snowye7 this module uses HTML5 Canvas in 2D mode to render the graph. The choice of whether to use CPU or GPU to render to canvas is internal to the browser and cannot be forced, as far as I know. In fact, I believe in most cases these graphs should already be using the GPU for rendering, but the browser's decision seem to depend on a few factors like canvas size, for example.

Isn't it possible to create a "3D Canvas" and sort of flatten it, to emulate the 2D ones - while forcing it to run the GPU render? (If its still using the 3D engine)

If you create a 3D context canvas you'll be in the realm of WebGL and you need to specify your elements as 3D geometries, plus write shaders etc. Instead of using the Canvas graphics language as is now.

In fact, there is a 3d-force-graph that does that, if you need it. You can set it to run the simulation in 2 dimentions, via .numDimensions(2). However the object geometries and the navigation controls will still be in the 3D domain.
