Things to do once repo becomes public

Listing here a few loose ends:

• Check that branch protection rules work as expected. For reference, see Governance / logistics #166
• Move to GH hosted runner Move CI to GH hosted runner once the repo is made public #161 and make sure that we run the bare minimum of workflows, to preserve free CI minutes.
