You can use RX operators to do it.
for example:

.observe()
.subscribeOn(
         Schedulers.from(Executors.newSingleThreadExecutor())
)

Otherwise you can write custom ActionStateWrapper to track running actions and force synchronization or even cancel consequent calls, etc. Anyway, schedulers are far easier way to go for simple cases.
