I find display of progress information very useful for long‐running copies, it can however be an annoyance when copying small files. I would very much enjoy if xcp had the ability to decide automatically when to display a progress bar, suppressing it in situations where it would provide little benefit.
I think the most practical method to implement this would be to suppress display of the progress bar initially until a certain duration of time – perhaps configurable through a command‐line option – has elapsed.
