Got plans to getting working under linux?
I don't mind testing/amending installation scripts, if you'd like?

It's not finished yet :) but some help with testing/installing under linux would be much appreciated.

• I've no idea how the usb joystick support works.
• some readme instructions for linux users to setup a named virtual midi port and linking that through to fluidsynth would also be handy.

I've added some details for my osx setup in the readme that may help as a starting point.

Allan, would you mind testing the installation process on branch: feature#1/linux_support
I streamlined the install command for both OSX and linux to use "make install" but don't have a way of testing it on OSX for obvious reasons.

I've tested the os selection. Nicely done! I never thought of using a variable as a make target. Genius!

I've committed some extra bits to that branch for Linux install. I've pygame3 installed.
Looks like Linux SDL wont respond to keyboard events unless it has an active window. That may need adding.

For now, because the project is so small and in it's infancy, you can commit to 'master'. There is no such thing as a 'stable' version of this project and I'd rather sing from the same hymn sheet in the short term. I'll merge the branch into 'master' now.

Pushed one or two minor changes, as I having a play this evening.

Update: I have managed to get the program working under Linux using a software midi renderer called TiMidity++. This was only a quick hack, as a rest from revision and needs doing properly.

To get it working in a better fashion:

• TiMiDiTy++ would have to be added to installation (it's in apt)
• The SDL keyboard events issue you mentioned would need resolving
• The midi device name/id option selection would need a little reworking (as it defaulted to an id that didn't work but I was manually able to set one that did)

Are you OK if I go ahead with this?

Never mind, read the section named "MIDI Synth installed" facepalm.
Ah well, is still an excuse to learn something about midi synths in Linux.
