By profession, I'm a computer science and math teacher. I build software on the side, out of conviction: I believe the internet works better when it's open, when tools are free, and when people - not platforms - own their data.
Too much of today's internet runs on subscriptions and walled gardens: comfortable on the surface, but a golden cage underneath. You don't own your data, you rent access to it, and the moment you stop paying, it's gone. I think we deserve a different internet: self-determined, democratic, built on tools anyone can run, inspect, and own.
Yuvomi is my contribution to that: a free, open-source, self-hosted family planner (tasks, shopping lists, meal planning, calendar, budget) that runs on your own hardware and never leaves it. Privacy isn't a feature I added, it's the architecture: encrypted local storage, zero telemetry, no cloud account required. It runs as a single Docker or Podman container, ships in 19 languages, and installs directly through TrueNAS SCALE, Unraid, or Umbrel.
I maintain Yuvomi alone, in the time outside the classroom. Sponsorship doesn't unlock a paid tier: Yuvomi stays fully free either way. What it buys is time: time to fix bugs faster, build the features people ask for, and keep one more corner of the internet free, open, and in people's own hands.
