Gallery takes ages to load thumbnails despite it says it's ynhronized 100%

Describe the bug
After a first install, lettting the night to synchronize with nextcloud server (~10k images), it says it is synchronized sucessfully.
However, whe using the gallery, I have to wait for all the pictures to pre-load, wich leads to most of the time black squares instead of images.

I have to precise that all the thumbnails were generated on server side according to recommanded tutorial / documentation.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. fresh install of the app, sync to nextcloud server
2. go to gallery of les pas
3. Scroll down
4. See black boxes everywhere on the screen and wait for it to load... If it's synchronized,it should be instant ?

Yes, it will be painfully slow. Because Les Pas doesn't have a companion app running on the server, everything needs to be done on your phone.

When you add new photos on the server, Les Pas needs to download them to the phone to extract metadata in the EXIF. There is no easy way to get around this. However, once that metadata is extracted, Les Pas will save a snapshot file in the phone so that future visits will be much faster.

You can try adding photos in batches, like several hundred at a time.

I was having the same issue.

You can drastically increase performance of scrolling using thumbnails (nextcloud calls them previews). By default Nextcloud will create 4k preview images which are actually quite large. Look into how you can set the max width and height of your image previews on nextcloud either in the config or by using the occ CLI. I used the previews app to set max width & height of image previews to 512x512px and then did preview:cleanup and preview:generate-all.

This will help Les Pas load the remote images much faster as you scroll.

Preview generation procedure has always been in the FAQ session. You should follow it strictly, especially the size of 1024x1024 must be in your config, Les Pas uses this specific dimension for thumbnail. If not, Nextcloud will generate the thumbnail of this size on the fly, even if you have other sizes of thumbnails already sitting on the server. I believe that's the situation you are facing there.
