JVM terminates with signal 6 (abort) after several hours of use

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. open port
2. read port every 3 seconds
3. write port occasionally

What is the expected output?
Not crashing

What do you see instead?
JVM crashes after a varying number of hours (few as 3, many as 12) (different 
interval every time). Stack trace from core dump attached

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
version 2.6 and 2.8 on Fedora 17 x86_64

Please provide any additional information below.
Two ports are being used, one on-board and one usb to serial dongle
