So i've tried compiling Quake 3 3 times now and i keep getting the same error, "make: *** [release] Error 2", anybody out there that knows how to fix this?

I had the same problem, which I believe is caused by this project requiring old versions of drivers. I found an updated Russian article which (if you translate it) gives updated directions. Here's it run through Google Translate.
