Do not install PostGreSQL server by default

Hello and thank you for this new tool, which seems promising.
I was wondering, in the case of use with one or more PostgreSQL servers, why the tool necessarily requires a PostgreSQL server that will unnecessarily consume resources on the client machine.
Would it not be possible to make it optional so that it fits the widest possible range of use cases?

Hi, thanks for the kind words and the thoughtful feedback!
Honestly, this is a use case I hadn't really considered — the initial goal of bbdump was essentially to work locally (create, backup, restore and manage databases on the developer's machine), so bundling the full PostgreSQL installation via Homebrew made sense to keep the onboarding simple.
But you're right: for someone who only wants to back up remote databases, only the client tools (pg_dump, pg_restore, psql) are needed — the server is overkill.
That said, this involves significant changes across the codebase: the onboarding flow, tool detection, local database creation, the proxy feature, UI states when no local server is available, etc. It's not just a config toggle, so it'll take some time to design and implement properly.
I'm adding it to the next roadmap (a "client-tools-only" mode). I'll update this issue as soon as it's released.

No pressure but I will so happy to swap from pgadmin4 as my new favourite admin tool .... BB has a so much clean UI !
