Compiled RIVeR binary for Intel version of Mac

Thank you for all your effort on RIVeR! I'm really excited to experience the functionality of the new version! I'm not sure if this is a large request, but would there be any possibility of having a binary compiled for the Intel version of Mac? I would be very grateful! Thank you! We actually tested the new version on Intel-based Macs, and it worked in our environment. Could you share a bit more detail about the behavior you’re seeing on your system? For example, are you encountering an error when launching, installing, or running a particular feature? This will help us better understand and potentially address any issues.

** Edit: The only macOS-specific issue we’re currently aware of is the one described in Discussions #76 (“RIVeR is damaged and can’t be opened”), which is related to Apple’s Gatekeeper blocking unsigned apps.

Hi Antione, Thank you for the quick response. When I try to open the app, I get the following message: "You can’t open the application “RIVeR” because this application is not supported on this Mac." My Mac is a 2020 Intel running Monterey version 12.7.6. When I check "Get Info" on the application file, it says "Kind: Application (Apple Silicon)". I assumed it was compiled for Apple Silicon only. If running fine on your Intel Mac, then is it possible that Monterey is too old for the app? Regards, Russell

Thanks again for providing these details.

The current RIVeR build was compiled on an Apple Silicon machine, but we’ve seen it work on some Intel Macs, likely thanks to Rosetta or other system factors. That said, you’re right: the binary is marked as “Apple Silicon,” and ideally, we should provide a universal build (Apple Silicon + Intel) to ensure full compatibility.
We’ll look into preparing such a build!

Many thanks, Antione! In the meantime, I have it running on a Windows desktop machine. It works well, but is not portable for me (e.g., field sites). I really like the user function and visualization of this new version! Is there a user manual available? I haven't found one online. Regards, Russell
