The core value of OPA lies in providing a decoupled and unified strategy, namely the "Policy as Code" solution. Standardizing it within the IETF means extending this capability from the cloud-native ecosystem to the entire Internet infrastructure, including network devices, security protocols, and various application layer protocols.
I believe that formalizing OPA's model through a recognized standards body like the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) could bring immense benefits, such as:
1,Enhanced Interoperability: Enabling different AI Agent systems and platforms to securely authorize actions and exchange data based on a common policy framework.
2,Wider Adoption: Establishing OPA as the de facto authorization standard for next-generation distributed systems, including AI.
3,Long-Term Stability: Cementing its future and fostering a broader ecosystem of compatible tools and implementations.
For instance, the role of OPA in the interconnection of AI agents, OPA can provide a unified, flexible and auditable trust and permission control center for a dynamic, heterogeneous and large-scale AI agent network. It transforms human intentions (rules) into machine-executable strategies, and puts "safety reins" on autonomous AI agents.
