This note describes the new features, fixed bugs and known problems that are specific to versions of Password Safe for Mac and Linux. For the Windows version, and all common changes, please see ReleaseNotes.md.

For a short description of Password Safe, please see the accompanying README.md file. For more information on the product and the project, please visit https://pwsafe.org/. Details about changes to older releases may be found in the file ChangeLog.txt.

In the following, SFxxxx refers to Bug Reports, Feature Requests and Service Requests in PasswordSafe SourceForge Project tickets, and GHxxxx refers to issues in the PasswordSafe GitHub project.

PasswordSafe 1.25.0 Release 18 July 2026

Bugs fixed in 1.25.0

  • GH1856 (regression) Clicking on a row in the "conflicting items" grid in the comparison dialog no longer hangs the app.
  • SF1630 Don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed.

PasswordSafe 1.24.0 Release 8 May 2026

New features in 1.24.0

  • Custom fields can now be added to each entry. That is, fields with user-defined names and values.

Bugs fixed in 1.24.0

  • GH1751 Changing the height of the Add/Edit dialog will cause a vertical scrollbar to be added.
  • GH1685 Attachments are now copied over by Drag & Drop between V3 safes.
  • GH1646 In the "Flattened List" view, sorting by time columns (e.g., entry creation time) now works correctly.
  • GH1661 MacOS specific: The app no longer crashes when changing a filter criteria for Attachment - Media Type.

PasswordSafe 1.23.0 Release 22 November 2025

New features in 1.23.0

  • Password Safe now supports adding a single attachment to an entry. Previously this was only available in the experimental V4 database format. With this release, the ability to add, update, remove and download a single attachment to an entry is now available via a new "attachment" tab in the Add/Edit Entry window.

Bugs fixed in 1.23.0

  • GH1293 If a group becomes empty after moving an entry, it's no longer automatically deleted.
  • GH1433 Group subtrees no longer collapse when adding an entry.
  • GH1443 The destination directory of an Export Report can now be specified by the user.
  • GH1543 Tweak Find functionality: selection and translation fixes.
  • GH1584 Entry names are no longer truncated in error message.
  • GH1619 A Debian package for release 13 (Trixie) will be part of the release.
  • GH1626 Search result is no longer hidden by horizontal scrollbar.

PasswordSafe 1.22.0 Release 11 July 2025

Bugs fixed in 1.22.0

  • GH1227, GH1228 Irrelevant functions are now disabled when databased is locked.
  • GH1472 'Go' button in Add/Edit window now respects "alt" browser specification.

New features in 1.22.0

  • macOS: File type associations are now supported for .psafe3 and .ibak files. The Pwsafe icon will be used in Finder and the app can be launched by double-clicking a file.
  • GH1237, SF823 A rough password strength meter now displays the strength of the password for entries and the master password.

PasswordSafe 1.21.0 Release 28 March 2025

  • In this release, PasswordSafe will significantly increase the standard (default) unlock difficulty of PasswordSafe databases. This may cause a noticeable slowdown when reading and writing databases. This is necessary to maintain the same level of security on today's hardware as when PasswordSafe was originally released.
  • Authenticator codes (One-time passwords, OTP, TOTP) can be configured and used via the UI.

Bugs fixed in 1.21.0

  • GH1317 Aliases can now be created from new or edited entries.
  • GH1408 Time fields (such as password modification time) are now copied over correctly in sync operations between databases.
