Now that Linkedin made progress in the refacto rollout, games are back

Also, follow recommendations code changed so hiding doesnt work anymore

The issue was: with the new Linkedin versions some people are getting, there is no way to select the appropriate HTML element to hide them. All classes are obfuscated

I see, yes. I'm thinking about 3 options:

Option 1: Hide aside[aria-label="Aside"] (my personal preference)

We hide Games + Feed recommendations.

• Downside: we hide LinkedIn links "About, Accessibility, Help Center...". I don't think LinkOff users will care about these links. However, if LinkedIn adds new stuff to this column it won't be displayed to LinkOff users.

Option 2: Find "Today's puzzles" in aside[aria-label="Aside"] and remove .parent.parent.parent.parent

We will get rid of these two at the same time.

• Downsides are obvious: this is going to break soon + depends on user language.

Option 3: Target by structure

It looks like the structure is:

aside (layout grid)
└── div (flex wrapper)
    ├── div (games & follow recs)
    └── div (links)

We could hide aside.children.children[0].

So my plan long term was to hide based on section title as its the most robust to Linkedin implementation changes

It would solve the games & recommendations but also the other "misc" tab broken options like advertisement & premium prompts.

It would require a json file containing the list of all translations for each section title we want to hide.
There would be 8 or 9 section titles but there are to check for 23 languages and an AI could maybe do it as its simple scrapping

I just didn't have much time these last few weeks

If you're up to it we could separate the tasks in 3:

• Write the hiding function based on title, probably something like "hideAncestorIndexByText(title, index)"
• Adding few starter languages, english, spanish, indian, french, arab.
• Add the others progressively

My concern about that approach is that each section will have a different structure. If you find "Today's puzzles", you still have to get the main div (in this case is .parent.parent.parent.parent), and I am afraid each section will be different.

Unless every section has the same structure, I would hide them one by one with different selectors. Some of them will break more often than others. In this case I think option 1 is super quick and reliable long term.

No problem to having different selectors for each section, it is how we do for other features (see hideAncestorIndexBySelector)

Option 1 still uses aria-label, which could change tomorrow because Linkedin is not stable

Also it hides both follows & games, which may not be what the user wants

Sections we want to hide individually are in the misc panel

• Write the hideAncestorIndexByText(title, index) JS function.
• Write function to load misc_sections_languages.json.
• Iterate language text and check if the node exists ?

I suggest we keep its structure simple and i18n friendly, could come in handy one day
