Issue Description
Two Xbox One controllers function correctly in the system menu and some games, but disconnect or fail to work properly in other titles. The issue occurs consistently with multiple controllers of the same model.
Games Tested
- Box Boy + Box Girl! – Works perfectly (stable).
- River Girls - Works perfectly (stable)
- Big Helmet Heroes – Second controller disconnects shortly after starting the game.
- Mario Party Superstars – Same behavior as Big Helmet Heroes.
I tested this using 6 identical Xbox One controllers in pairs across all three titles.
Reproduction Steps
Box Boy + Box Girl! (Works correctly)
- Perform a fresh system start.
- Turn on both controllers — they are recognized and work normally in the system menu.
- Launch the game.
- Both controllers work normally from the start.
River Girls (Works correctly)
Identical to BBBG
Big Helmet Heroes (Reproducible issue)
- Perform a fresh system start.
- Turn on both controllers — they are recognized and work normally in the system menu.
- Launch the game.
- The second controller loses connection and starts blinking slowly.
- Pressing the sync button causes fast blinking, but the controller is not recognized by the game.
- Press the Home button, go to Change Grip/Order, and reconnect both controllers.
- Return to the game — the second controller loses connection again.
Mario Party Superstars
The behavior is nearly identical to Big Helmet Heroes.
Additional Info
- All controllers are the same official Xbox One model.
- The issue happens regardless of which specific controllers are used.
What should I try next to resolve or further diagnose this? Is there a way to enable logging or generate debug reports for controller connection issues? I’m happy to run any additional tests if needed.
Thank you!
