Synaptic used to work for a decade. After a Devuan testing update if I start synaptic from terminal (either as super user or with sudo or as user with synaptic-pkexec) nothing happens. program does not exit, but no window appears. I have to hit ctrl-c to end the process, because it stays idle forever waiting may be for something IDK.
I am not using a desktop environment, just plain Xorg + window manager (fvwm3). I have a dbus session active.
I have set xhost + and copied user .Xauthority file to /root, if that matters. No change.
There are no dead lock files.
How can I know what is blocking synaptic from running? If I start synaptic with a non existing option (like sudo synaptic -v) then a dialog box appears. This at least shows that an alert window is opened.
No messages are printed on terminal after I start synaptic.
