What version of python?

Hi,
part of my Group asked me what version of python we are using, and Morten thought that it would be a good idea for us to decide on it. :D

We decided on using python 2.7.
If 3.x works, that's good too :-)

Send some pull requests if you find stuff that needs changing for it to work in both 2.x and 3.x
