Get the "allfollow" experiment working

The goal is to get a simple existing SWEEP experiment to run. The all_follow experiment will be used since it exists, is simple, and is one of the line forming experiments that I remember creating.

• get basic compilation to work with make V=all_follow
• eliminate build warnings
• begin use of the trace functions for logging
