I am on the IGC branch, which could lead to inconsistencies, so I want to begin recommending ignoring this unless there is an obvious point that the assertion can fail when it was never supposed to.

I was mousing around and making some corrections and suddenly Emacs was locked up. No response on SIGUSR2. Had to kill it.
