Searching for "counter" does not find messages containing "counters"

Searching in Element for "counter" does not find messages containing "counters". I'd expect the index to stemming to make this work. For example, searching in Slack for "process" will give results that contain "processes" or "processing"

Appears to still be the case today in encrypted rooms. Any workarounds possible?
