Debian Trixie, atril 1.26.2
journalctl reports when atril starts:

atril[36349]: gdk_monitor_get_width_mm: assertion 'GDK_IS_MONITOR (monitor)' failed
atril[36349]: gdk_monitor_get_height_mm: assertion 'GDK_IS_MONITOR (monitor)' failed
atril[36349]: gdk_monitor_get_scale_factor: assertion 'GDK_IS_MONITOR (monitor)' failed
atril[36349]: gdk_monitor_get_geometry: assertion 'GDK_IS_MONITOR (monitor)' failed

I have found another issue with another topic but the same output, see: #557 (comment) stating that there is a missing runtime check.

Expectation: no warnings when using wayland.

I was just unable to duplicate this on atril 1.28. Atril did not receive any special work to support wayland as it seemed to work fine when I was developing the wayland session and the panel and caja support for it. No idea why you get this and I do not.

What compositor are you using? If on the wayland session (only available in 1.28 or 1.29), this would be wayfire. Note that Weston, Gnome, and KDE are missing features (gtk-layer-shell and foreign-toplevel) needed for many mate apps but these are not used in atril.

I can try, not that much experience, its not about typing the compilation commands...
Can this "corrupt" my current installation of atril?
On the other hand side, why not making 1.28 available to debian trixie, currently only on sid?

I have no control over what Debian does. To test a local build, temporarily remove your current install but have the packages on standby to reinstall after, them install your local build with make install and remove it after with make uninstall. You will need mate-common and the -dev package for mate-desktop, GTK, GLIB, possibly a few others if you do not already have them.
